WannaCrpyt Attacks

WannaCrpyt Attacks

Over the past weekend, many organisations in over 75 countries fell victim to a coordinated malware attack from the ransomware known as WannaCrypt.

At Care Computers we have been working to ensure all devices under our control are patched, virus definitions updated and backups tested to mitigate risk for our clients, but there are a few things that can be done on your end to protect further:

  • Ensure that devices are regularly rebooted to apply security patches – Many IT users turn off their devices incredibly infrequently which doesn’t give the device a chance to install critical software updates.
  • Be extra vigilant – The simplest form of defence is being careful with links and attachments, particularly from unknown or untrusted sources.
  • Don’t wait – If you suspect that an attack has compromised your device, turn off the device, remove it from the network and contact your IT supplier immediately.
