Microsoft Teams for Education

Microsoft Teams for Education

“The education mission at Microsoft is to empower every student, everywhere, to achieve more. To that end, we create hardware and software that improves learning outcomes. Together, we’re taking the classroom into the future.”

Microsoft Teams for Education

In light of the current COVID- 19 situations in the UK, resulting in nationwide school closures, many schools are faced with providing some form of a remote learning platform for all pupils. However, not all schools are equipped to offer this. Microsoft Teams for Education is a quick, easy to deploy platform that is ideally suited for the education sector. Best of all it’s free for schools and universities who already use the Microsoft Office 365 for Education package.

Microsoft Teams for Education enables Teachers to continue to promote learning in a virtual classroom, aside from their typical classroom environment.  They can easily communicate with students, host virtual learning webinars, host Team Meetings with unlimited pupils and store easily accessible files. Teachers can also collaborate and work alongside pupils on documents at the same time to create that sense that even though teachers and students are apart, you are both still in close contact with each other.

The Microsoft Teams application fully integrates with the typical applications your pupils are used to; such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams can conveniently be accessed by Phone, Tablet, Desktop or Browser, meaning students and teachers alike can use it any time of the day in any location.

What are the benefits of using Microsoft Teams for Education?

Microsoft Teams provides a familiar interactive environment for your digitally native students that is both engaging and fun. There are many ways for students to communicate with teachers and their peers using real-time text chat, video, voice and fun emojis, gifs and stickers. Teachers can also quickly set up assignments within Teams.

Teachers can ensure that Microsoft Teams promotes a safe, productive and engaged learning environment by maintaining full control of communication. This includes the ability to share content with specific groups of people or particular students or to set up private Teams to communicate with staff only. Teachers can also specify user permissions to gain even greater control, such as; Preventing students from emailing the entire class or specific individuals.

What are the benefits of Microsoft Teams for Teachers?

Teachers can easily stream Teams Live events to their entire class at the click of a link. Students can interact and ask questions throughout and share a recording of the presentation and relevant material afterwards.

Teams will enable you to have full visibility of what students are working on, where they are up to and what they are chatting about to others. Because of the chat feature, Teachers using Teams for Education report a higher percentage of peer to peer learning than in the typical classroom environment. The majority of questions asked by students on Teams are quickly answered by other students, saving you time but also instilling a deeper level of learning.

Students can send you their completed work within Teams, and you are then able to provide instant feedback or collaborate on the document with them if they require some additional guidance.
